What's the difference between voice lessons and vocal coaching?
Voice lessons primarily focus on vocal technique to increase vocal range, build vocal strength, blend smoothly between head voice and chest voice, achieve mixed voice and belt coordinations, master multiple musical and vocal styles, sing high notes with ease, and eventually achieve technical and artistic mastery.
Vocal coaching is primarily for singers looking to prepare for auditions, for performances, or for the recording studio. Vocal Coaching sessions focus on performance strategies, stage presence, musical choices, stylistic nuances, microphone technique, and learning how to sing different musical styles. Vocal Coaching also includes accompaniment, recording accompaniment tracks, repertoire book building, audition song selection, and acting coaching.
What ages or levels do you teach?
We teach students of all ages from 4 years old and up. Also, we teach students of all levels from beginners to professionals, and everything in between!
Where are you located?
Our studio is located in Midtown Manhattan:
242 West 38th Street, 11th FloorNew York, NY 10018
This studio is where you'll find New York Vocal Coaching and New York Speech Coaching instructors, our group classroom, our audio recording studio, and our primary location for video production.
Sorry, but we accept NO walk-ins!
Do I have to audition? Are you a school?
We are a vocal coaching studio that offers classes to improve vocal technique and application as a service. There is no audition required to begin voice lessons with us — only a desire to make a joyful noise!
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any set curriculum for clients that are looking for vocal certification. However, we are able to customize a schedule to certify the amount of time or lessons that clients have completed with us, if requested.
Do you offer student visas for international clients?
We are currently not qualified to offer student visas to international clients. However, international students are always welcome to take lessons with us with their tourist visa or any other type of visa.
How do I choose a teacher who is right for me?
This decision is completely up to you! All of our teachers are qualified and capable of teaching all levels of students, from beginners to professionals. That said, you are welcome to visit the Staff page, and view all of our teachers and their backgrounds. This way you can get a better sense of whom you'd like to work with!
Is there a certain amount of classes I need to commit to?
Here at NYVC, you are welcome to take as many lessons as you would like. You are not required to take any number of lessons while you study here.
What do I need to prepare for my first lesson?
While all voice lessons are individually tailored for the needs of each student, generally our teachers will begin with a brief discussion about any prior vocal training you may have had (if any), your vocal goals, and any additional questions. From there the lesson is usually divided into 2 parts: Vocal Warmups and Technique Exercises, followed by Material Song work. You are welcome to bring any material that you’ve been already working on, or that you would like to start working with your new teacher. With that in mind, the time spent on each of these aspects of the lesson depends entirely on the goals of the student.
Can I record my lesson?
Not only are you always welcome to record your lesson, we highly encourage it! Many of our students use their phones to record their lessons, or you can bring a recording device of your choosing. Recording your lesson is a great way to review and continue practicing what you worked on with your instructor!
What is your cancellation policy?
All sessions must be cancelled either via your Manage account or by sending an e-mail to the New York Vocal Coaching Assistant (assistant@newyorkvocalcoaching.com).

Inquiries to reschedule are considered cancellations. The timestamp of your cancellation via Manage or the receipt of your email cancellation request will determine what, if any, cancellation fee is required.
All sessions cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointment must be paid in full. Due to high demand for sessions, appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours notice will also be charged a $50 fee. New York Vocal Coaching and our associates respectfully request 72 hours notice when canceling or rescheduling appointments, but there is no fee unless cancellations are made with under 48 hours notice. Thank you again for respecting your teachers by following the Cancellation Policy.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payment online with credit/debit cards through the New York Vocal Coaching Manage site, or you can also pay for your lessons via cash or check. Your credit/debit card information is stored securely in our payment processor's platform — for security, we never store anything except the last four digits of your card, the card type, and the expiration date on file.
Do you offer group lessons or packages?
All of our teachers offer private, one-hour voice lessons. We do not currently offer packages for bulk lessons.
Although our coaches primarily offer private lessons, we do have a Musical Theatre Master Class and various Acting Workshops that are group classes. For more information please email our Admin Team at assistant@newyorkvocalcoaching.com.
How often should I take lessons? How many lessons do I need?
Everyone has different progress rates. It all depends on your work ethic, the amount you practice in between lessons, and your dedication during lessons. That said, every lesson provides an opportunity to learn something new to continue your vocal progression. But the rate of your progression does ultimately depend on you. You are welcome to take as many lessons as you are comfortable with, based on our teachers’ availability.
